Jeremy Bentham deserves to be on the syllabus next year because he is one of the founders of an important and influential viewpoint in moral philosophy. This viewpoint is seen or used in almost any philosophy class, so as a required course for philosophy majors it is a great topic to be included in the coursework. As far as the philosophical canon, Bentham has earned his place because he has made a giant impact on the way that moral philosophy is evaluated due to the creation of Utilitarianism. Also, Mill is a part of the philosophical cannon so naturally as a counterpart in founding this view, he should be included as well. Overall, Jeremy Bentham was a political and social radical that founded one of the most famous consequentialist viewpoints in ethics, so he has earned a spotlight in philosophy.
