I think including Denis Diderot around the time students are learning about other materialists, determinists, empiricists, etc. could be helpful and act like a breath of fresh air. Spinoza writes very axiomatically and proves things geometrically which can be very fatiguing and a lot to keep track of with his definitions, propositions, proofs, axioms, etc. Diderot, especially in dialogue form, is very digestible and easily retained. Obviously he is not a replacement for someone like Spinoza but I think using Diderot in conjunction with someone like Spinoza could be a helpful supplement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
